Super Star Shahrukh Khan's ‘D’ tattoo becomes permanent

Super Star Shahrukh Khan's ‘D’ tattoo in his upcoming movie Don 2 has been registered for copyright protection against the name of King Khan. This is for the first time, an actor will have a tattoo design registered in his name. Merchandise like caps, T-shirts, bags and other stuff will have the same design that Khan sports on his arm in the flick.

Producer Ritesh Sidhwani says that it was a good idea to make the tattoo permanently his.“The biggest fans of the franchise are kids. Merchandise like caps, T-shirts, bags and other stuff will really be liked by them. It’s been five years since the first film. In this period, the craze for the film has just grown. We’ve realised that protecting the copyright to the tattoo design worn by Shahrukh Khan will keep the franchise alive”.

According to Farhan Akhtar, the 'D' tattoo was designed as a representation of Don’s attitude. “In a world where men tattoo the name of their beloved on their arm. We thought we should have a subliminal symbol of Don’s confidence in himself. It is definitely not permanent but I think Shahrukh really enjoyed wearing it... maybe it kept him in the character’s frame of mind”.

Shahrukh Khan Filmi career in 1990s.

Shahrukh studied acting under celebrated Theatre Director Barry John at Delhi's Theatre Action Group. In 2007, John commented thus on his former pupil that, "The credit for the phenomenally successful development and management of Shahrukh's career goes to the superstar himself.Shahrukh Khan made his acting debut in 1988 when he appeared in the television series, Fauji, playing the role of Commando Abhimanyu Rai.He went on to appear in several other television serials, most notably in the 1989 serial, Aziz Mirza's Circus, which depicted the life of circus performers. The same year, Khan also had a minor role in the made-for-television English-language film, In Which Annie Gives it Those Ones, which was based on life at Delhi University and was written by Arundhati Roy. When Khan appeared in those teleserials, people found in him some resemblance with legendary actor Dilip Kumar and also compared his acting style with the thespian.

Upon moving from New Delhi to Mumbai in 1991,Shahrukh Khan made his Bollywood movie debut in Deewana (1992). The movie became a box office hit, and launched his career in Bollywood. His performance won him a Filmfare Best Male Debut Award. He went on to star in Maya Memsaab, which generated some controversy because of his appearance in an "explicit" sex scene in the movie. In 1993, Khan won acclaim for his performances in villainous roles as an obsessive lover and a murderer, respectively, in the box office hits, Darr and Baazigar. In Khan's entry in Encyclopedia Britannica's "Encyclopedia of Hindi Cinema" it was stated that "he defied the image of the conventional hero in both these films and created his own version of the revisionist hero."Darr marked his first collaboration with renowned film-maker Yash Chopra and his banner Yash Raj Films, the largest production company in Bollywood. Baazigar, which saw Khan portraying an ambiguous avenger who murders his girlfriend, shocked its Indian audience with an unexpected violation of the standard Bollywood formula. His performance won him his first Filmfare Best Actor Award. In that same year, Khan played the role of a young musician in Kundan Shah's Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, a performance that earned him a Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance. Khan maintains that this is his all-time favourite among the movies he has acted in.In 1994, Khan once again played an obsessive psycho's role in Anjaam, co-starring alongside Madhuri Dixit. Though the movie was not a box office success, Khan's performance earned him the Filmfare Best Villain Award.

In 1995, Khan starred in the two biggest hits of the year in India. His first release was Rakesh Roshan's Karan Arjun. The film, which dealt with reincarnation, became the second-highest grossing film of the year.He followed it with Aditya Chopra's directorial debut, the romance Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. A major critical and commercial success, the movie became the year's top-grossing production in India. In 2007, it entered its twelfth year in Mumbai theaters. By then the movie had grossed over 12 billion rupees, making it one of India's biggest movie blockbusters.Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge won ten Filmfare Awards, and Khan's performance as a young NRI who falls for Kajol's character while on a college vacation, won him his second Best Actor Award. In 2005, Indiatimes Movies ranked the movie amongst the 25 Must See Bollywood Films, citing it as a "trendsetter of sorts".In that same year's retrospective review by Rediff, Raja Sen stated, "Khan gives a fabulous performance, redefining the Lover for the 1990s with great panache. He's cool and flippant, but sincere enough to appeal to the junta. The performance itself is, like the best in the business, played well enough to come across as effortless, as non-acting.
1996 was a disappointing year for Khan as all his movies released that year failed to do well at the box office. This was, however, followed by a comeback in 1997. He saw success with Subhash Ghai's social drama Pardes one of the biggest hits of the year and Aziz Mirza's comedy Yes Boss, a moderately successful feature. His second project with Yash Chopra as a director, Dil to Pagal Hai became that year's second highest grossing movie, and he won his third Filmfare Best Actor Award for his role as a stage director who falls in love with one of his new actresses.

In 1998, Khan starred in Karan Johar's directorial debut, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which was the biggest hit of the year. His performance won him his fourth Best Actor award at the Filmfare. He won critical praise for his performance in Mani Ratnam's Dil Se. The movie did not do well at the Indian box office, though it was a commercial success overseas.Khan's only release in 1999, Baadshah, was an average grosser.

ShahRukh Khan: New Year 2009 Movie Calendar

There is not a dot in Bollywood that does not carry Shahrukh Khan's name. 2009 is full of surprise for Shahrukh fans. Shahrukh's fan are a bit disappointed after having just one release this year (RNBDJ on Dec 12). Shahrukh will have at least 3 releases in 2009 (4 if you include the long delayed Dulha Mil Gaya).
Coming in Jan 2009 is Billoo Barber. Shahrukh has a guest role in this flick, So, to me it doesn't really count as one of his major starrer. Hopefully he'll have enough footage to make it engrossing.
Here is the real surprise. Yashraj has reportedly signed Shahrukh for a movie to be directed by a newbie (Rakesh Kapoor). SEL will be composing the music and this flick will release for Diwali 2009.
Finally the biggie, Karan Johar's my name is KHAN will release sometime in Dec 2009. Not sure where Dulha Mil Gaya fits into the scheme of things.
So, it sure is a super treat for Shahrukh Khan fans to see him capture the screens through the year ! God bless Shahrukh Khan!

Shahrukh Khan turns 43, explores new avenues(IMAGE)

He earns over Rs.1.5 billion ($30 million) a year through endorsements, over Rs.10 million to grace an event, Rs.10 million per TV episode, more than Rs.150 million/Rs. 15 crores per film and has now launched a Rs.109 billion real estate project in the UAE. Actor Shah Rukh Khan, who turns 43 Sunday, is much more than a Bollywood superstar.

With his dimpled cheeks, toned frame, impeccable dressing sense and unmatched wit and humour, the actor has enthralled audiences worldwide for almost two decades now with films like 'Baazigar', 'Darr', 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge', 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', 'Dil To Pagal Hai' and 'Chalte Chalte'.

King Khan, as he is fondly called, wears the diadem of the actor with the biggest pocket in tinsel town - rumoured to be around Rs.16 billion (Rs.1,600 crores) with his maximum earnings coming from commercial endorsements.

Shah Rukh, the actor-turned-businessman, who earns more than Rs.300 per minute as per experts, has successfully diversified into newer avenues with the same charismatic appeal with which he rules Bollywood, just as his fan following has spread over the rest of Asia-Pacific and into Europe, North America and Africa.

After a colourful 2007 with two hits - 'Chak De! India' and 'Om Shanti Om' (OSO), Shah Rukh has left the theatres devoid of his presence this year. But the actor continues to be a phenomenon worldwide.

He made a quick profit of Rs.400 million/Rs. 40 crores across the table by selling the world distribution rights of 'Om Shanti Om' to Eros International for Rs.750 million as against the production cost of Rs.350 million.

The profit that he earned from the deal was apart from the remuneration of Rs.50 million that he took as the lead in the movie.

His further business commitments to his Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kolkata Knight Riders and his stint on TV as the host of reality quiz show 'Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain' this year have kept him off the big screen.

Shah Rukh has also been kept busy with his ongoing world tour - Temptations Reloaded.

'It's very important for every actor to diversify and Shah Rukh is doing the same - exploring possibilities in other fields. He has all the qualities of an all-rounder. If he is cutting down on movies, it's a good thing. This way, his fans would get to watch him do more quality cinema,' trade analyst Taran Adarsh told IANS.

'This is a fantastic phase for him. After Amitabh Bachchan, he is the only actor who has an incredible career graph and I'm sure that he'll be seen on the big screen for a long time,' he added.

The actor is one among the few to have a huge fan following in Bollywood. Even his colleagues can't stop raving about him.

'I'm a huge Shah Rukh fan. I've always been one and even he knows that. I admire him since his earliest films and I'd like to see a lot more of him on the screen,' Priyanka Chopra, who starred with him in 'Don', told IANS.

Actress Eesha Koppikhar was all praise for the actor having achieved superstardom without having any godfather.

'Shah Rukh is a great performer, a lovely actor and a wonderful person. He comes from a non-film background and despite that he has achieved the success and fame that he enjoys today. He is a true achiever,' she said.

Filmmaker Aziz Mirza, who cast Shah Rukh in four out of five of his movies, said: 'Shah Rukh has always believed in quality cinema. He is a workaholic and he does everything with dedication. He is an excellent actor.'

Although Shah Rukh was not seen on the big screen for most of 2008, he kept hogging the headlines, the latest for getting the Malaysian honour 'Datuk'.

His forthcoming releases are 'Billo Barber', 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi', 'My Name is Khan', 'Dulha Mil Gaya', a sequel to 'Don - The Chase Begins Again' and a voiceover in animation film 'Koochie Koochie Hota Hain'.

Amir Khan's controversial Comment on Shahrukh -Original Text

I’m sitting under a tree, on the edge of a valley, approximately 5000 feet above sea level. The river Krishna flows far below us snaking its way among the Sahyadri mountains. A cool breeze is blowing, jannat ki hawa (breeze from the heavens), as my mother calls it. Ammi, Ira and Junaid are by my side and we are in the middle of one of our favourite board games ‘Settlers Of Catan’. Shahrukh is licking my feet and I am feeding him biscuits every now and then. What more can I ask for?

Now, before you jump to any conclusions let me add that Shahrukh is the name of our dog. And before you jump to any further conclusions let me add that I had nothing to do with naming him. In fact Shahrukh is the dog of the caretakers of our house. When I bought this house it came with the caretakers and their dog! Apparently Shahrukh (the actor) was shooting for a commercial in this house a few years ago, and that very day the caretakers bought a pup…, and named him Shahrukh. What are the chances of me buying a house which comes with a dog called Shahrukh!!!

Some of my friends claim that I bought the house just because of the dog. I would have to be a serious fan of Shahrukh’s to want to do that. Your guess…

All I can say is I’m waiting for him to come over, .

Getting back to Settlers of Catan, it’s a wonderful game. You must try it if you are fond of board games.

All in all I am having a great time with my mom and kids here in my favorite place on earth, Panchgani. I think Kiran and I must have done something good in our life to be blessed with this great place to get away to.

My hamstring muscle seems to be healing, slowly but surely.

Catching up on films, saw Casino Royale last night which I liked.

Incidentally Panchgani is a favorite with para-gliders. Now that’s something I am going to learn as soon as I finish with the Ghajini shoot.

Well Shahrukh is once again begging for my attention, so let me get back to him. He is smelling too much, I think he needs a bath. “Heel boy, heel.”
